I am honored to have the opportunity to be applying for the Adult Nursing Program (M.Sc.) offered by Keele University, UK. I come from humble origins having been raised by a single mother. My mother is my inspiration in wanting to become a nurse. She has been a surgical nurse for over 20 years now and it is her dedication and dexterity in her work which motivated me to follow in her footsteps.
I have completed my bachelors in Nursing from Banaras Hindu University, India. As a scholarship student, it was important for me to maintain my high scores throughout my undergraduate years and I was fortunate to graduate sumo cum laude in my year. My education so far has taught me a variety of life-saving skills and has also taught me to quickly isolate the source of a patient’s symptoms. Apart from the theoretical knowledge I gained I have become adept in assisting surgeons in the operation theatres. Having assisted in a number of surgeries I have grown to realize the importance of the support of nursing staff to assist the surgeon in his/ her work.
During my final year in college, I volunteered as an Emergency Medical Responder at the Varanasi Health Centre. This experience gave me insight into the importance of teamwork and swift responses in saving lives. The high-pressure situations I often dealt with helped me to develop the skill of thinking on my feet and make decisions about the best course of stabilizing a patient with limited resources available. Of course, I was fortunate to be a part of a wonderful team and I learned more from my peers that I did from classroom teaching. I hope to continue my career working with seamlessly integrated teams of medical professionals with the solitary goal of providing the best patient care.
I am intrigued by the advanced level of course work in this program and the opportunities available to practice the concepts hands-on. I hope that this program will help me gain deeper insight into the fundamental concepts of Nursing Sciences that I have already learned at the undergraduate level. I also wish to acquire high-level technical skills which I will require to assist surgeons in the operation theatre. I have no doubt that with my determination to succeed and attention to detail I shall be able to excel in this highly sought after program.
It is my ambition to become a surgical nurse in the future and assist surgeons in the most critical surgeries. I look forward to playing a part in bringing back patients with even the most severe health conditions. It is imperative for me to obtain a quality education in order to achieve this dream of mine. Therefore I would be delighted to be offered a place in the Graduate Nursing Program offered by your institute.
